Owning Our Words

Owning Our Words grew from a belief that storytelling is a form of self-determination. In 2020, creative facilitator Anna Ball worked with the Survivor Alliance to co-create an anthology with survivors of modern-day slavery across the UK, India and Cameroon. Meeting online during lockdown, participants shaped their own narratives through a series of workshops that centred agency, mutual support and the steady work of reclaiming voice. The resulting publication was released on Anti-Slavery Day, offering a platform that speaks to resilience, clarity and the power of collective authorship.

This project explored how shared creative processes open up space for connection, reflection and belonging. Across these projects, the emphasis is consistent: create the conditions for people to speak for themselves, honour lived experience and allow creativity to help rebuild what systems have taken.
